Jahmar Young went absolutely psycho on his opponents last week, beating his opponents with a hose (and 29 pts a game), but J. Quayle was named WAC Player of the Week. Why? Well, let's check the numbers!
I am still very impressed with Young's outing, but I like Quayle's overall game, especially for a short white boy. He had 7 rebounds 7 assists in the first half against BSU before sitting most of the 2nd.
quayle- 70 minutes, 30 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists, 4 turnovers, 52% from the field, 55% from 3
that is .43 points per minute played, .2 rebounds per minute, .17 assists pm
Young- 70 minutes, 58 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 turnovers, 53% from the field, 35% from 3.
.83 pts pm, .09 rebs pm, .04 assists pm
The big difference is points, but those 12 assists by quayle turn into at least 24 points for his team. Quayle also led the team to a win @ Nevada, which is better than @ Idaho (although Idaho is still good too). NMSU’s win over FSU is better than Utah State beating BSU, but quayle only played 25 mins and almost had a triple double at half time. There is more to basketball than having a guy score a lot of points, and I think that is why the WAC POW is Quayle.
